The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The one who is skilled in reciting the Quran will be with the noble, righteous scribes (angels).” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Tajweed is not optional — it is the right of the Quran upon every Muslim. When you learn Tajweed, you give every letter its proper pronunciation, every rule its correct application, and every verse its intended beauty.
At Rahman School, your Tajweed teacher holds an Ijazah in Quran recitation with an unbroken chain (Sanad) back to the Prophet (peace be upon him). They will listen to every letter you read, correct you with patience, and guide you from wherever you are today to beautiful, confident recitation.

What Is Tajweed and Why Does It Matter?
Tajweed comes from the Arabic root meaning “to make beautiful” or “to improve.” In the context of Quran recitation, Tajweed is the set of rules that governs how every letter, word, and verse should be pronounced.
Without Tajweed, you might be reading the Quran — but you are not reciting it correctly. Some pronunciation mistakes can even change the meaning of a verse. This is why scholars agree that learning the basic rules of Tajweed is an obligation (Fard Ayn) for every Muslim who reads the Quran.
The good news? Tajweed is not as difficult as it sounds. With a qualified teacher and regular practice, most students begin hearing the difference in their recitation within the first month.

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Tajweed Classes
Do I need to know Arabic before starting Tajweed?
You need to be able to read Arabic letters at a basic level. If you cannot read Arabic yet, we recommend starting with our Quran Reading course or Arabic for Beginners first. Your teacher will assess your level in the free trial and advise you on the best starting point.
Is Tajweed obligatory?
Islamic scholars agree that learning the basic rules of Tajweed is an individual obligation (Fard Ayn) for every Muslim who reads the Quran. The advanced, theoretical knowledge of Tajweed is a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah). At minimum, every Muslim should recite with enough Tajweed to avoid changing the meaning of verses.
Can children learn Tajweed?
Yes. Children from age 6-7 can begin learning basic Tajweed rules alongside their Quran reading. Younger children learn Tajweed naturally by imitating their teacher’s correct pronunciation. Our teachers adjust the level of Tajweed theory based on the child’s age and ability.
How long does it take to learn Tajweed?
With 2-3 classes per week, most students can apply basic Tajweed rules confidently within 3-6 months. Reaching an advanced level where you can recite the entire Quran with proper Tajweed typically takes 8-12 months. Working toward an Ijazah may take 1-2 years depending on your starting level.
What is the difference between Tajweed and Tarteel?
Tajweed is the set of rules for correct pronunciation. Tarteel is the practice of reciting slowly, clearly, and with proper Tajweed applied — as Allah commands in the Quran: “And recite the Quran with Tarteel” (73:4). Our classes teach both — the rules and the art of applying them beautifully.
Can I get an Ijazah through online classes?
Yes. Many of our students have earned their Ijazah through online classes with Rahman School. The Ijazah examination process is the same as in-person — your teacher listens to your complete recitation and grants the Ijazah when you meet the required standard.
