How Our Hifz Programme Works
Memorising the Quran is not about speed. It is about building a strong foundation so that what you memorise stays with you for life. Our method is built on three pillars:
Pillar 1: New Memorisation (Hifdh Jadeed)
Each class begins with your new portion. Your teacher recites the verses, you repeat them, and together you work through the pronunciation, meaning, and flow until you can recite them from memory. The amount you memorise each day depends on your pace — there is no fixed quota.
Pillar 2: Recent Revision (Muraja’ah Qaribah)
Before learning anything new, you revise what you memorised in the last 1-2 weeks. This is the most important step. New memorisation is fragile. Without regular revision in the first few weeks, it fades quickly. Your teacher tests you every class.
Pillar 3: Old Revision (Muraja’ah Ba’idah)
Once a week, your teacher takes you back through older portions — Surahs you memorised weeks or months ago. This long-term revision is what separates someone who “memorised and forgot” from a true Hafidh who retains the entire Quran.
Every class includes all three pillars. This is how the Quran has been memorised for 1,400 years. We have simply brought this method online.
Hifz Plans for Every Student
Kids Hifz Programme (Ages 6-12)
Children have a natural gift for memorisation that adults envy. Our kids’ Hifz programme uses this golden window. We start with Juz Amma (the 30th Juz), then work backward. Classes are 30 minutes, 4-5 times per week, with stories and encouragement woven in.
Typical pace: 1-2 pages per week
Realistic timeline to complete: 3-5 years (depending on the child)
Teen Hifz Programme (Ages 13-17)
Teenagers balance school, exams, and social life. We build a Hifz schedule that fits around their studies. Classes can be before school, after school, or on weekends. The teacher understands exam season and adjusts the pace when needed.
Typical pace: 2-3 pages per week
Realistic timeline to complete: 2-4 years
Adult Hifz Programme (Ages 18+)
It is never too late. Many adults believe Hifz is only for children — that is not true. Adults bring focus, intention, and understanding that children do not have. Your teacher will create a realistic plan that fits your work and family life.
Typical pace: 1-3 pages per week
Realistic timeline to complete: 3-6 years (part-time), 1.5-3 years (dedicated)
Partial Memorisation
Not everyone aims to memorise the entire Quran — and that is perfectly fine. Many students come to us wanting to memorise:
- Juz Amma (for Salah)
- Surah Al-Baqarah
- Surah Yaseen, Al-Kahf, Al-Mulk, and other beloved Surahs
- Selected Surahs for special occasions
Your teacher will help you set a goal that is meaningful to you and build a plan around it.
What Makes a Good Hifz Teacher?
Memorising the Quran is as much about the teacher-student relationship as it is about the method. A good Hifz teacher needs:
- Strong personal Hifz — they must have the Quran memorised themselves
- Ijazah certification — proving their recitation chain goes back to the Prophet (peace be upon him)
- Patience — memorisation has difficult days; the teacher must be encouraging, not discouraging
- Accountability — they must hold you to your revision schedule while being understanding of life’s challenges
- Experience with your age group — teaching Hifz to a 7-year-old requires different skills than teaching a 35-year-old
Every Rahman School Hifz teacher meets all five criteria. They are Al-Azhar graduates with Ijazah certifications and years of experience helping students complete their memorisation.
Hifz Progress Tracking
We believe parents and adult students should never have to guess how memorisation is going. That is why every Hifz student receives:
- Weekly progress reports showing what was memorised, what was revised, and the teacher’s assessment
- A memorisation tracker that maps your journey from the first Surah to the last
- Regular parent-teacher check-ins (for children) to discuss pace, challenges, and goals
- Monthly milestone celebrations — because every Juz completed deserves to be recognised
What Students and Parents Say
My daughter started Hifz 18 months ago. She has now memorised 10 Juz, Alhamdulillah. Her teacher keeps her motivated even on the hard days. We are so grateful.
— Parent, United Kingdom
I am 34 years old and I was told it was too late to memorise the Quran. Rahman School proved everyone wrong. My teacher helped me memorise 5 Juz in one year while working full time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Quran Memorization Online
Can you really memorize the Quran through online classes?
Yes. The method of Hifz — teacher listens, student recites, teacher corrects — works just as well over video as it does in person. The key is consistency and a dedicated teacher who holds you accountable. Thousands of students worldwide have completed their Hifz through online classes.
Am I too old to memorize the Quran?
No. While children memorise faster, adults bring deeper understanding and stronger intention. Many of our adult students memorise 1-3 pages per week while working full-time jobs and raising families. The Prophet’s companions memorised the Quran as adults. It is never too late.
How many classes per week does my child need for Hifz?
For serious Hifz progress, we recommend 4-5 classes per week. This allows for daily new memorisation and revision. Some families start with 3 and increase once the child is comfortable. Your teacher will recommend the right frequency based on your child’s age and attention span.
What if my child forgets what they memorised?
Forgetting is normal — it is part of the memorisation process, not a failure. Our three-pillar method (new memorisation + recent revision + old revision) is specifically designed to prevent long-term forgetting. The key is consistent revision, which your teacher builds into every single class.
Do you teach Hifz with Tajweed?
Absolutely. Memorising with correct Tajweed from the start is essential. We never allow a student to memorise a verse with incorrect pronunciation because bad habits are very difficult to fix later. Your Hifz teacher corrects Tajweed and memorisation simultaneously.
Can my child work toward an Ijazah after completing Hifz?
Yes. Students who complete their memorisation with strong Tajweed can continue to our Ijazah programme. The teacher will prepare them for the Ijazah examination, where they recite the entire Quran from memory to an authorised examiner.
The Best Time to Start Was Yesterday. The Next Best Time Is Now.
Every verse you memorise is a companion in your grave and an intercessor on the Day of Judgement. Do not let another month pass without starting.
