What Are The Lessons Learned From Surah Mutaffifin? Surah Mutaffifin (Arabic: سورة المطففين ) written Surat al-Mutaffifin, is a Meccan surah, its verses 36, and its arrangement in the Quran is 83, in the thirtieth part, it began with a warning to the Mutaffifin, “وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ“،,” revealed after Surah al-Ankabut.  It was called al-Mutaffifin because the focus of the surah is the violence against this type of people who tread on scales and weights.

There are many lessons that we learn from mutaffifin surah

– Lack of belief in the hereafter allows human beings to do evil without any fear of accountability.

– Hearts that have become hardened due to sins are not receptive to the truth.

– The people who obey  Allah’s rules and apply just and fair will be rewarded in the hereafter.

– We should give people all full rights without increasing or decreasing the measurement.

– Believers compete for the blessings of the hereafter.

– The rejecters of faith have always mocked those who believe. This act will be reversed in the hereafter.

– The people of oppression and injustice will be punished.

What is the main theme of surah al mutaffifin?

The theme of surah mutafifeen is also the Hereafter. In the first six verses, the people are taken to task for the evil practice prevalent in their commercial dealings. When they received their due from others, they demanded that it be given in full, but when they had to measure or weigh for others, they would give less than what was due. Taking this one evil as an example out of countless evils prevalent in society, it is said that it is an inevitable result of the heedlessness of the Hereafter. Unless the people realized that one day they would have to appear before Allah and account for every single act they performed in the world, it was not possible that they would adopt piety and righteousness in their daily affairs. Even if a person might practice honesty in some of his less important dealings given “honesty is the best policy”, he would never practice honesty on occasions when dishonesty would seem to be “the best policy”. Man can develop a true and enduring honest nature only when he fears Allah and sincerely believes in the Hereafter, for then he would regard honesty not merely as “a policy” but as “a duty” and obligation, and his being consistent in it, would not be dependent on its being useful or useless in the world.

In conclusion, the believers are consoled, and the disbelievers are warned that the people who are disgracing and humiliating the believers today are culprits who, on the Resurrection Day will meet with the evilest end in consequence of their conduct, and the believers will feel comforted when they will see their fate.

Mutaffifin meaning

‘Al- Mutaffifun’ is the plural of Mutaffif, a noun derived from the verb (taffaf=dealt in fraud) as you say in English; buyer (buy), deceiver (deceive), inventor (invent), taffaf means to diminish or reduce illegally, and this thing is taffif (adjective) means this thing is trivial or insignificant.

If a person weighed a quantity or an amount and it didn’t match the wanted weight, he is then muttafif. A person’s reliability is hurt if he sells a kilo of dates, and it was less than the correct weight even by one date. So At-Tatfif (infinitive), has many ways, especially in the present time.

Al-Mutaffifin also means the stinters who use unfair means & measures to take more than they should and give less than they should. As the principal subject of the discourse is the stinters/al-Mutaffifin, the Mutaffifin further elaborates the actions of either; using malpractice or carefully being honest; which are recorded in Sajjín and Illiyún respectively.

Where was surah Mutaffifin revealed?

Surah Mutaffifin was revealed in Makkah and it has 36 verses. Opinions are divided about this Surah on whether it is a Meccan Surah or a Medinan one.

One of the occasions of revelation of the surah mutafifeen denotes that the beginning verses of the Surah, which are about shortchanging, can be about those tradesmen who dealt in fraud in Medina.

Nasai and Ibn Majah both recorded from Ibn Abbas that he said, “When we came to Madina, the people of Madina were the most terrible in giving measurements (i.e., they used to cheat).

Other verses of the surat al mutaffifin mostly resemble, from the point of tone, the Meccan Surahs, whose short and meaningful verses warn of the Resurrection and the horrible events of the Hereafter.

Particularly, the last verses of the Mutaffifin, which speak about the mocking of the disbelievers at the believers, match the earlier environment of Mecca where Muslims were in a minority and unbelievers were in a majority.

Perhaps, it is for this reason that some commentators consider a part of the Surah Meccan and another part of it to belong to the Medina period. But, on the whole, mutaffifin surah seems chronologically close to the Meccan period.

when was surah mutaffifin revealed?

Surat mutafifeen was revealed when the disbelievers started ridiculing the Muslims and disgracing them publicly in the streets and their assemblies, but persecution and manhandling of the Muslims had not yet started.

And for people who are stingy with measurements and weight by decreasing or increasing at Madinah.

why was surah mutaffifin revealed?

For people who are stingy with measurements and weight and at last verses for disbelievers who mocked the believers and didn’t believe that this will be hereafter.

Is surah al mutaffifin Makki or Madani?

Determining the order and time of the Suras revelation were chronic issues in Quranic Sciences interpretation.

The important subject in this field is the position of al-Mutaffifin surah which is not clear to consider as the last Makki Surah or the first Madani Surah.

According to narrations and oral witnesses on Quran Suras dating, it could be seen that most traditions express al-Mutaffifin is followed by Ankabout (Spider) Surah.

It also can be concluded that according to Mohammad’s Hegira and its distance from the begging of the Hijri calendar, the revelation of this surah is close to His Hegira. The characteristics of this surah express that it is Makki.

Surah al mutaffifin tafsir

An-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah both recorded from Ibn `Abbas that he said, “When the Prophet came to Al-Madinah, the people of Al-Madinah were the most terrible people in giving measurement (i.e., they used to cheat). Thus, Allah revealed,

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

(Woe to Al-Mutaffifin.) After this, they began to give good measure.” The meaning of the word Tatfif here is to be stingy with measurement and weight, either by increasing it if it is due from the others, or decreasing it if it is a debt. Thus, Allah explains that the Mutaffifin those whom He has promised loss and destruction, who is meant by “Woe” are

الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُواْ عَلَى النَّاسِ

(Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men,) meaning, from among the people.

(demand full measure,) meaning, they take their right by demanding full measure and extra as well.

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

(And when they have to give by measure or weight to (other) men, give less than due.) meaning, they decrease. Verily, Allah commanded that the measure and weight should be given in full.

Threatening the Mutaffifin with standing before the Lord of all that exists

Then Allah says as a threat to them,

أَلا يَظُنُّ أُوْلَـئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَّبْعُوثُونَ

 لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

(Do they not think that they will be resurrected, on a Great Day) meaning, do these people not fear the resurrection and standing before He Who knows the hidden matters and the innermost secrets, on a Day that contains great horror and tremendous fright Whoever loses on this Day will be made to enter into a blazing fire. Then Allah says,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَـلَمِينَ

(The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of all that exists) meaning, they will stand barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised at a station that will be difficult, hard, and distressful for the criminals. They will be covered by the command from Allah, and it will be that, which the strength and the senses will not be able to bear.  Imam Malik reported from Nafi` who reported from Ibn `Umar that the Prophet said,

«يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ، حَتْى يَغِيبَ أَحَدُهُمْ فِي رَشْحِهِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ أُذُنَيْه»

(This will be the Day that mankind will stand before the Lord of all that exists until one of them will sink up to the middle of his ears in sweat.) Al-Bukhari recorded this Hadith from Malik and `Abdullah bin `Awn, both of whom reported it from Nafi`. Muslims also recorded it from two routes.

The Record of the Wicked and some of what happens to Them

Allah says truly,

  • إِنَّ كِتَـبَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ

(Nay! Truly, the Record of the wicked is in Sijjin.) meaning, that their final destination and their abode will be in Sijjin, which is derived from the word prison (Sijn), and here it means straitened circumstances. It is full of hardship and misery. Thus, Allah expresses the greatness of this matter, saying;

  • وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

(And what will make you know what Sijjin is) meaning, it is a great matter, an eternal prison, and a painful torment. Some have said that it is beneath the seventh earth.

It is only an explanation of the destination that will be recorded for them, which is Sijjin. Meaning, that it is inscribed, written, and completed. No one can add to it and no one can remove anything from it. This was said by Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi.

It has been mentioned previously in the lengthy Hadith of Al-Bara’ bin `Azib that the Prophet said,

«يَقُول اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي رُوحِ الْكَافِرِ اكْتُبُوا كِتَابَهُ فِي سِجِّينٍ. وَسِجِّينٌ هِيَ تَحْتُ الْأَرْضِ السَّابِعَة»

(Allah says concerning the soul of the disbeliever, `Record his book in Sijjin.’ And Sijjin is beneath the seventh earth.)” it is known that the destination of the wicked people will be Hell, and it is the lowest of the low.

  • كِتَـبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

(A Register inscribed.) This is not an explanation of His statement,

  • وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

(Woe, that Day, to those who deny.) meaning, that when they come to the imprisonment, Allah threatened them with, on the Day of Judgement, and the disgraceful torment. The statement, “Woe,” has already been discussed previously and there is no need to repeat it here. It means destruction and devastation. This is like what is said, “Woe to so-and-so.” This is similar to what has been recorded in the Musnad and the Sunan collections under the authority of Bahz bin Hakim bin Mu`awiyah bin Haydah, who reported from his father, who reported his grandfather that the Messenger of Allah said,

(Woe unto whoever speaks, and lies to make the people laugh. Woe unto him, woe unto him.) Then Allah says, in explaining who are the wicked, disbelieving deniers,

  • الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

(Those who deny the Day of Recompense.) meaning, they do not believe it will happen, and they do not believe in its existence. Thus, they consider it a matter that is farfetched. Allah then says,

  • وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلاَّ كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

(And none can deny it except every transgressor, sinner.) meaning, transgressive in his actions by doing that which is forbidden and exceeding the limits when acquiring the permissible. He is a sinner in his statements because he lies whenever he speaks, he breaks his promises whenever he makes them, and he behaves in an abusive and wicked manner whenever he argues. Concerning Allah’s statement,

  • إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـطِيرُ الاٌّوَّلِينَ

(When Our Ayat are recited to him, he says: “Tales of the ancients!”) meaning, that whenever he hears the Words of Allah from the Messenger, he denies them and has ill thoughts about them. Thus, he believes that it is a collection gathered from the books of the ancients.

  • كَلاَّ بَلْ رَانَ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ مَّا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَ

(Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering) which they used to earn.) meaning, the matter is not as they claim, nor as they say: “Verily, this Qur’an is tales of the ancients.” Rather, it is the Word of Allah, His inspiration, and His revelation to His Messenger. The only thing that blocked their hearts from believing in it is the dark covering cast over it from the many sins and wrongs they committed that have covered up their hearts.

This dark covering known as Rayn overcomes the hearts of the disbelievers, the covering of Ghaym is for the righteous, and the covering of Ghayn is for those who are near to Allah.

Ibn Jarir, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nisa’i, and Ibn Majah all recorded from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet said,

(Verily, when the servant commits a sin, a black spot appears in his heart. If he repents from it, his heart is polished clean. However, if he increases (in the sin), the spot will continue to increase.

  • كَلاَّ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

(Nay! Surely, they will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.) meaning, they will have a place on the Day of Judgement, and lodging in Sijjin. Along with this, they will be veiled from seeing their Lord and Creator on the Day of Judgement. Imam Abu `Abdullah Ash-Shafi`i said, “In this Ayah is a proof that the believers will see Him (Allah), the Mighty and Sublime, on that Day.” Concerning Allah’s statement,

  • ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُواْ الْجَحِيمِ

(Then verily, they will indeed enter the burning flame of Hell.) meaning, along with this being prevented from seeing the Most Gracious, they will also be among the people of the Fire.

  • ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـذَا الَّذِى كُنتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

(Then, it will be said to them: “This is what you used to deny!”) (83:17) meaning, this will be said to them by way of scolding, rebuking, belittling, and humi- liation.

The Record Book of the Righteous and Their Reward

Allah says that truly,

  • كَلاَّ إِنَّ كِتَـبَ الاٌّبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ

(Nay! Verily, the Record of Al-Abrar (the righteous believers) is in `Illiyyin.) “This means Paradise.” Others besides him have said, “`Iliyyin is located at Sidrat Al-Muntaha.” The obvious meaning is that the word `Illiyyin is taken from the word `Uluw, which means highness. The more something ascends and rises, the more it becomes greater and increases.

إِنَّ كِتَـبَ الاٌّبْرَارِ

(Verily, the Record of Al-Abrar (the righteous believers)) These people are in a situation that is the opposite of wicked people.

لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ

(is in `Illiyyin.) meaning, their final destination is `Illiyyin, which is the opposite of Sijjin. It has been reported from Hilal bin Yasaf that Ibn `Abbas asked Ka`b about Sijjin while he was present, and Ka`b said, “It is the seventh earth and in it are the souls of the disbelievers.” Then Ibn `Abbas asked him about `Illiyyin, so he said, “It is the seventh heaven and it contains the souls of the believers.” This statement — that it is the seventh heaven — has been said by others as well. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said concerning Allah’s statement,

  • وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

(And what will make you know what `Illiyyin is) Then He says by way of affirming what will be written for them,

  • كِتَـبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
  • يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

(A Register inscribed. To which bear witness those nearest.) They are the angels. This was stated by Qatadah. Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas that he said, “Those nearest to Allah in each heaven will witness it.” Then Allah says,

  • إِنَّ الاٌّبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ

(Verily, Al-Abrar (the righteous believers) will be in Delight.) meaning, on the Day of Judgement they will be in eternal pleasure and gardens that contain comprehensive bounties.

  • عَلَى الاٌّرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

(On thrones, looking.) “This means that they will be looking at Allah, the Mighty, and Sublime.” This is the opposite of what those wicked people have been described with,

كَلاَّ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

(Nay! Surely, they (evildoers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.) (83:15) Thus, it has been mentioned that these (righteous people) will be allowed to look at Allah while they are upon their thrones and elevated couches.

عَلَى الاٌّرَائِكِ

(On thrones,) These are thrones beneath canopies from which they will be gazing. It has been said, “This means that they will be gazing at their kingdom and what Allah has given them of good and bounties that will not end or perish.

  • تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ

(You will recognize in their faces the brightness of delight.) meaning, `you will notice a glow of delight in their faces when you look at them.’ This is a description of opulence, decorum, happiness, composure, and authority that they will be experiencing from this great delight. Concerning Allah’s statement,

  • يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

(They will be given to drink of pure sealed Rahiq.) meaning, they will be given drink from the wine of Paradise. Ar-Rahiq is one of the names of the wine (in Paradise). Ibn Mas`ud, Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, and Ibn Zayd all said this. Ibn Mas`ud said concerning Allah’s statement,

  • خِتَـمُهُ مِسْكٌ

(Sealed with musk,) “This means it will be mixed with musk.” Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas that he said, “Allah will make the wine have a pleasant aroma for them, so the last thing that He will place in it will be musk. Thus, it will be sealed with musk.” Qatadah and Ad-Dahhak both said the same. Then Allah says,

وَفِى ذَلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَـفِسُونَ

(and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive.) meaning, for a situation like this, let the boasters boast, compete, and strive to gain more. Let the competitors compete and race toward the likes of this. This is similar to Allah’s statement,

لِمِثْلِ هَـذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَـمِلُونَ

(For the like of this let the workers work.) (37:61) Allah then says,

  • وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

(It will be mixed with Tasnim.) meaning, this wine that is being described is mixed with Tasnim. This refers to a drink called Tasnim, and it is the most excellent and exalted drink of the people of Paradise. This was said by Abu Salih and Ad-Dahhak. Thus, Allah says,

  • عَيْناً يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

(A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah.) (83:28) meaning, those who are near to Allah, will drink from it as they wish, and the companions of the right hand will be given a drink that is mixed with it. This has been said by Ibn Mas`ud, Ibn `Abbas, Masruq, Qatadah, and others.

The Wicked Behavior of the Criminals and Their mocking of the Believers

  • إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجۡرَمُواْ كَانُواْ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ يَضۡحَكُونَ
  • وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمۡ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

Allah informs us that the criminals used to laugh at the believers in worldly life. In other words, they would mock them and despise them. Whenever they would pass by the believers, they would wink at each other about them, meaning in contempt of them.

  • وَإِذَا انقَلَبُواْ إِلَى أَهْلِهِمْ انقَلَبُواْ فَكِهِينَ

(And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.) meaning, that when these criminals turn back or return to their homes, they go back pleased. This means that whatever they request, they find it. Yet, with this, they still are not grateful for Allah’s favor upon them. Rather they busy themselves with despising and envying the believers.

  • وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّ هَـؤُلاَءِ لَضَآلُّونَ

(And when they saw them, they said: “Verily, these have indeed gone astray!”) meaning, `because they are upon a religion other than their religion.’ Allah then says,

  • وَمَآ أُرْسِلُواْ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـفِظِينَ

(But they were not sent as watchers over them.) meaning, these criminals have not been sent as guardians over the deeds and statements of these believers. These wrongdoers have not been made responsible for them. So, why are they so concerned with them, and why have they made them the focus of their attention This is as Allah says,

(He (Allah) will say: “Remain you in it with ignominy! And speak you not to Me!” Verily there was a party of My servants, who used to say: “Our Lord! We believe, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of all who show mercy!” But you took them for a laughing stock, so much so that they made you forget My Remembrance while you used to laugh at them! Verily, I have rewarded them this Day for their patience: they are indeed the successful ones.) (23:108-111) Thus, Allah says here,

  • فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

(But this Day) meaning, the Day of Judgement.

(those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers) meaning, as retribution for how those people laughed at them.

  • عَلَى الاٌّرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

(On thrones, looking.) meaning, looking at Allah as a reward for bearing the false claims against them that they were misguided. They were not misguided at all. Rather they were the close Awliya’ of Allah, who will be looking at their Lord in the place of His honor. Concerning Allah’s statement,

  • هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفْعَلُونَ

(Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do) meaning, `will the disbelievers be recompensed for their mockery and belittlement against the believers, or not’ This means that they surely will be paid in full, complete, and perfectly (for their behavior). This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Al-Mutaffifin, and all praise and thanks are due to Allah.

Surah Al Mutaffifin in English

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
1. Woe Unto the scrimpers:
2. Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full,
3. And who, when they measure Unto them or weigh for them, diminish.
4. Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up?
5. On a mighty Day.
6. A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds?
7. By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin.
8. And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is?
9. A record of misdeeds written.
10. Woe on that Day unto the delivers-
11. Those who belie the Day of Requital.
12. And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner.
13. And when Our revelations are rehearsed Unto him, she saith:´fables of the ancients!
14. By no means!´ Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning.
15. By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord, they will be shut out.
16. Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch.
17. Then it will be said: ´this is that which ye were wont to belie.´
18. By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in ´Illiyun.
19. And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is?
20. A record of good deeds written.
21. To which bear witness those brought nigh.
22. Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight,
23. Reclining on couches, looking on.
24. Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight.
25. They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed.
26. The seal thereof will be of musk and to this end let the aspirers aspire –
27. And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim:
28. A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh.
29. Verify those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh,
30. And, when they passed them, to wink at each other,
31. And when they returned to their household they returned jesting.
32. And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones.
33. Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers.
34. Wherefore Today, those who believed in the infidels are laughing,
35. Reclining on couches, looking on.
36. The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing.

Surah mutaffifin benefits

There are many benefits of reciting surah mutaffifin :

1- Al-Tabrizi has cited a hadith from the Prophet according to which, if someone recites Sura al-Mutaffifin, Allah will saturate him with a pure, clean drink never seen by anyone.

2- According to a hadith from Imam al-Sadiq (a), if someone recites Sura al-Mutaffifin in his obligatory prayers, Allah will protect him against the punishments of hell after the resurrection; neither will the hellfire meet him, nor will he meet the hellfire.

3- According to another hadith from Imam al-Sadiq (a) cited in Tafsir al-Burhan, if Sura al-Mutaffifin is recited for anything, that thing will be immune from all evils and insects on Earth.

Hadith on surah al mutaffifin

– Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, when the servant commits a sin, a black mark appears upon his heart. If he abandons the sin, seeks forgiveness, and repents, then his heart will be polished. If he returns to the sin, the blackness will be increased until it overcomes his heart. It is the covering that Allah has mentioned: No, rather a covering is over their hearts from what they have earned.” (83:14). Sunan al-Tirmidhī

How to memorize surah mutaffifin?

There are two methods that you may use of them to memorize not only surat al mutaffifin but any Surah in the Holy Quran.

The first method (Memorize a single Ayah) :

1-Find a quiet place that’s free from distractions for a 20-minute session, if you’re sitting in a loud, busy environment, you can’t memorize well.

Find a room in your home or mosque where you’ll be free from distractions.

Avoid rooms with TV or computer screens, and leave your phone in a different room after turning the sound off.

If you work on memorizing for less than 20 minutes, you’re probably not going to remember the passage later on. If you memorize for more than 30 minutes, you can lose track of all the information—20 minutes is the perfect length for a memorization session.

You can easily memorize a single ayah in one 20-minute session. Practice a new ayah every day to build up to a full surah.

If you live with others, consider enlisting a friend or family member to memorize passages with you. This way the two of you can keep each other accountable when you’re starting.

2- Select an ayah at the start of a surah you like.

Select a surah that you identify with and feel a strong emotional connection to. There is nothing wrong with memorizing a single ayah because you love the meaning of the passage. Standard Muslim practice requires knowledge of an entire surah though, so you probably want to learn the whole thing.

If you’re planning on memorizing an entire surah mutafifeen , start with the ayah at the very beginning of the chapter that you plan on memorizing.

You should start memorizing surah Al-Fatihah since every Muslim must know this to pray their salat.

3- Consider the meaning of an ayah by reading it carefully. Before you start trying to memorize the ayah, read through it carefully in a language you understand to ensure that you understand the meaning of the passage.

This will have the added benefit of helping you memorize al mutaffifin since you’ll be able to rely on the sequence of the passages as opposed to simply memorizing the sounds.

Even if it weren’t helping you memorize, you should know the meaning of the words that you’re memorizing. The entire point is to help you preserve and understand the word of Allah(SWT). You can’t do that if you don’t know what the words mean.

4- Obtain a copy of the ayah’s pronunciation if you don’t speak Arabic.

Ayahs are always memorized in the classical Arabic that they were originally written in. This means that you’ll need to obtain a recording of the Qur’an if you aren’t a natural Arabic speaker.

Find an audio recording online or purchase an audio companion to help you with the pronunciation.

The online version of the Qur’an allows you to listen to the ayahs while reading a translated version.

This can be an incredible aid during the memorization process.

There are plenty of YouTube tutorials that can walk you through pronunciation techniques.

The proper recitation techniques and sounds are called tajweed.

5- Recite the entire passage out loud to get a sense of the rhythm. Once you have a copy of the Qur’an, a quiet place to work, and an audio guide, start by reading the ayah out loud. Read the individual passage out loud in its entirety.

Avoid splitting a single ayah into parts. When citing or reciting it, other Muslims will expect you to know the entire ayah as opposed to part of it.

Focus on the meaning of the words instead of the sounds alone to make memorizing easier. It’s much easier to remember a story than a pattern of noises.

Most ayahs are pretty short and are divided in a way that makes memorization easy.

6- Repeat the ayah over and over again until you internalize it. Say a single ayah at least 5 or 6 times while reading it on the page. Then, lower your book or look away from your computer and try to say it out loud from memory. If you get stuck, refer to your Qur’an or audio recording.

Depending on how good you are at memorizing, this could take you anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes.

Once you think you memorize the ayah, revise from the beginning of the surah up to the ayah after your recent ayah without the Qur’an to make sure you might not forget it.

7- Check your work against the audio recording to ensure you’ve got it down. Say the ayah out loud one more time.

Then, immediately play a recording of the ayah with the proper tajweed. Check your recitation against the audio guide to ensure that your pronunciation, cadence, and tempo are correct. If it is, you can move on to another passage. Keep practicing if you need a little more work.

Repeat an ayah regularly to make sure that you don’t forget it.

Don’t worry if you don’t master it on the first attempt. The Arabic pronunciations can be pretty difficult if you grew up speaking a different language.

The second method (Committing Surah to memory) :

1- Set a schedule for yourself and stick to it by practicing every day. Memorizing an entire surah can be a big task, so it helps to set a reasonable pace and stick to a strict rule. Generally, 20 minutes is a reasonable amount of time to dedicate to surah memorization every day.

If you spend 20 minutes a day working on memorizing the Quran, you could memorize the entire book within a year.

Consider working on mutaffifin surah first thing in the morning. This way you can work on reciting it during every salah, which is the required daily prayer.

Try to remember to practice your Qu’ran on your own without a reminder, which will show the love you have for Allah(SWT) and his divine words in his holy book. He might reward you and give you a better chance of admittance into Jannah

2- Learn the ayahs in chronological order and start from the beginning each time. After you memorize an individual ayah, repeat the entire surah up to the point that you’ve just memorized. Do this after every ayah that you memorize so that you can commit the order to memory at the same time that you’re memorizing the individual passages.

For example, if you were memorizing the first surah in the Qu’ran, you would start by saying “In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful” out loud. Repeat it 5-6 times, then add the second ayah to the first. So it would become “In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.”

3-Practice reciting Al-Mutaffifin ack to a friend to ensure that you’ve mastered it. Have a friend or family member open up the Qur’an to the surah you’ve memorized.

Recite it out loud and have them stop you whenever you miss something. This will help you identify any passages you need to focus on.

If you can recite it perfectly, you’ll know that you’ve mastered surah al mutaffifin  Do this for 2-3 days after you’ve memorized it to fully internalize it.

4- Recite other surahs that you’ve memorized once every 7 days. If you’ve memorized other surahs, it can become difficult to keep track of all of them if you don’t revisit them on occasion.

Once every 7 days, go back to the other surahs that you’ve memorized to ensure that they stay fixed in your memory

.You can always recite surahs while you’re doing everyday tasks like cleaning, showering, or walking somewhere.

Repeat a newly-memorized surah whenever you have downtime

Surah mutaffifin summary

The most important aim of Surat al mutaffifin is the threat and threat that the Surah began with to all those who twist the scales and manipulate them, so they diminish the rights of people when they sell them and eat what Allah has forbidden.

Surah mutafifeen starts by warning those who defraud others by selling to them less than the value of their money.

Describe the conditions of the pious believers who will reward Gardens under which rivers Naim resident when those who do not miss him whit, he says:

 {إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ * عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ * تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ * يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ}،

And there are other aims of mutaffifin surah involves the comparison of the consequence of both teams, the unbeliever’s team who will be punished with destruction and loss because they were mocked by the believers and laughed at them, and a team of believers who laugh at the end of those criminals as they laugh at them in this life, he says:

{فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ}،

And this is a bounty of Allah will be honored by the faithful for their patience and their faith in their world.

It goes on to talk about Qiyamah and the fate and outcome of the believers and disbelievers and their rewards and punishments, finally ending with describing how the tables will be turned on Qiyamah and where in the world the believers were mocked by the disbelievers, on that day it is the opposite.
